Roof Works

Dear [[firstname]]

As members will you will be aware, the club has been experiencing significant issues with the roof, resulting in persistent leaks and concerning consequential damage to the building. The situation has developed over time, following roofing works undertaken by two previous contractors, and has now reached a point where a comprehensive and lasting solution is required.
Over recent months, the committee has worked hard to assess the available options and determine the best way forward. While we have undertaken a number of repairs in an attempt to address the immediate problems, it has become clear that these measures are, at best, a temporary solution. We are effectively firefighting individual issues, rather than resolving the underlying problem, and continuing in this way would leave the club exposed to further damage and disruption.
We have carefully considered the options available to us, including potential litigation. However, our overriding priority is to protect the club, minimise further damage and disruption, and get the club back on its feet as quickly as possible.
Following discussions with the latest contractor, who we believe to be reputable, we have reached an agreement that we consider both sensible and affordable for the club. We have decided to give the contractor the opportunity to take ownership of the situation and deliver the comprehensive solution that is needed. While the history of the issue is understandably concerning, we believe this approach offers the most practical route to resolving the problem without allowing the situation to deteriorate further. The committee is putting measures in place to oversee the roofing works and is reviewing all relevant insurance policies, warranties and assurances to ensure they are fit for purpose and adequately protect the club's interests.
Importantly, we have also secured an earlier start date of 2 November, rather than waiting longer for the works to commence. This is a significant step in reducing the period of uncertainty and limiting the risk of further damage to the building.
We fully appreciate the concerns members have raised about the current condition, appearance and overall feel of the club. These concerns are entirely understandable, and the committee recognises the importance of maintaining a welcoming environment that members can be proud of.
Once the roofing works have been completed and the building is secure, redecoration and restoring the appearance of the club will be a priority. Planning for this work is already underway, and we intend to move forward with it as soon as circumstances allow.
The works are scheduled to commence on 2 November and are expected to take approximately 2–3 weeks to complete. We will issue a further update the week before, outlining any restrictions and anticipated disruption, including scaffolding, a skip and contractors on site. We will do everything possible to minimise the impact on members and visitors and ask for your patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out.
If you have any concerns, views or opinions then please let us know.
Best regards
LSC Squash and Racketball Committee
