We are sad to report that Ann Jee has passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87
The Club's most distinguished woman player, Ann began playing squash at the age of 16 and reached the national top 20, with a highlight of reaching the British Open Vets final at Wembley in 1986.
Her Club and County Honours:
Club 1st Team – 35 years
County 1st Team – 25 years
Club Champion – 13 times
County Champion – 9 times
Club Captain, Club Committee
County Captain, County Chairman and County President
Ann was awarded Honorary Life Membership of Leicester Squash Club
Ann was an International Referee and Professional Coach, setting up the first Leicestershire junior county girls coaching and squads in the early 1970s.
Nationally she chaired the WSRA (Women's Squash Rackets Assn) before it amalgamated with the SRA (Squash Rackets Assn – now England Squash), and was Chairman of England Selectors.
Internationally Ann was Chairman of the Women's Committee, on Development and Championship Committees, and was Technical Director for a number of Women's and Junior Girls World Championships.
In 2000 Ann was awarded an MBE for her services to squash, a fantastic honour which she received from the late Queen Elizabeth.
Ann was also a stalwart at Rothley Golf Club, a member for 49 years she represented the club on many occasions. She was a single figure player, was Lady Captain in 1985, Lady President 2002-2004 and was made an Honorary Life Member in 2019.
Not forgetting her talent as a sportswear designer and artist. As a partner in a sportswear company she designed and produced tennis dresses for Sue Barker and Yvonne Goolagong which graced Centre Court at Wimbledon, and designed and produced outfits for the British Squash Team when they toured Australia.
Ann's commitment to our club and to the sport we all love was truly remarkable. Her friendship, support, and contribution to the club will always be remembered, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Ann's family, especially Sally and Christopher, at this difficult time.
