Passing of Peter Farmer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Farmer who was a long established member of our club. Peter passed away peacefully in care at the age of 90.

Peter was a keen rugby player, playing for Stoneygate, but after retiring from the sport he continued his enthusiasm for squash and is thought to have become the oldest ever playing member of Leicester Squash Club, playing with the "Monday-Nighters" The Monday Night Club (MNC) was formed in 1946 but when in 1963 Peter and others applied to join they were told that they had to be elected. Insulted by this they formed a splinter group called the Monday Knights. In later years this was reabsorbed into the MNC and Peter continued to play until a new hip at the age of 80 put a stop to it. He was known for preferring to use his original wooden racket rather than the more powerful modern equivalent. Peter was a well known and likeable character at our club and his presence is missed.

For anyone who would like to attend, Peter's Memorial Service will be at 2.30 pm on Thursday 25th September at Billesdon Parish Church following a private Cremation. Afterwards there will be a celebration of his life at the Queens Head, Billesdon. Black not to be worn - colour encouraged, also Club ties - either 'Gate or Tankards particularly appropriate.
